The Scavenger Hunt

Assignment:

In this activity you will break up into groups. Each group is to shoot a series of shots. The group is given a list of shots. It is the task of the group to gather as much of the shots as possible in the time allowed. Each student must take at least five shots from the list. The same type of shots can be gathered to allow for everyone to shoot five shots.

Procedure:

  • Become familiar with the controls on the camera you will be using for the workshop. Find a location to record the demonstration keeping in mind the techniques of a site survey and setting up the shot. Record a video and audio test and check the results in the camera viewfinder.

  • Record a video based on the list described in the assignment.

  • Document each shot with the name of the shot and the name of the shooter.

  • Review the footage through the viewfinder.

  • Show your video to the class

  • Critically look at the scenes you created. Are there differences between the two scenes? Which scene do you think is more effective in telling the story? How can the scenes be shot different to tell the story better? What types of problems do you see with the video? How would you do it different?
